puberty love

If I had to guess I’d say it was the summer of 1984. I would’ve been 12. I went to visit my Aunt Sally, Uncle Michael and cousins Susan and Karen. They were the first people I knew that had a VCR. It was huge. It had a corded remote. Enough said. Needless to say, they also had a video club membership. So I got to choose and I rented “Attack of the Killer Tomaotes”. It was so bad it was good. I knew it was a camp classic before I even knew what camp was. I stayed up literally ALL night watching it. I remember my uncle coming down to the basement in the morning confused thinking I had gotten up EXTRA early to watch movies. No no I was entranced. If memory serves me correctly I watched it over 20 times that trip. Those tomatoes made quite an impression on my delicate young mind. Imagine a movie where vicious man-eating giant tomatoes attack and the only thing that repells them is a hit song called “Puberty Love”. It doesn’t get any better than that kids. Add it to your netflix queue The Ref trailer and you’ll won’t be sorry you did! (video preview available via netflix).

Where’d this stroll down memory lane come from you ask? Karen sent me a link — it’s the 25th Anniversary of the film.
